Neil Edward Windland passed away on February 8, 2010 in Mexia, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 12, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. James Williams officiating. Interment will follow at New Hope Cemetery. Family Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Neil was born on February 8, 1942 in Turkey Creek, Florida to Charles and Helen Moore Windland. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in Vietnam, making him eligible for membership of the VFW, which he served as commander for many years. He and Doc Ingram were responsible for keeping the Mexia Post doors open through many lean years.
Mr. Windland was preceded in death by his father and a son, Randall Edward Windland. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Linda; one daughter, Sharon Jennings; two granddaughters, Maranda and Candice; one grandson, Dylan; three great grandchildren, Nicholas, Brianna and Reyna; his mother, Helen; sisters, Polly & husband, Vaughn and Carolyn.
Pallbearers will be; Carm Hoyne, Bill Lee, Bill Whaley, Chet Fredelieus, James Marcum and Dylan Jennings; honorary pallbearers are; Gloria Hoyne, Jean Harrison, Billie Marcum, Candice Minchew, Delta Sterling and Lori Banning.
